| 2/25/2024 | Women’s Basketball | Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Florida Atlantic women’s basketball (9-17, 4-11 AAC) dropped a 76-60 decision on the road Sunday against the UTSA Roadrunners (14-12, 8-7 AAC) inside the Convocation Center. HOW IT HAPPENED UTSA struck first, producing an 11-5 run to open the contest. The Owls first triple, courtesy of Allie Tylka, helped spark an 8-0 Florida Atlantic run, capped off by Mya Perry’s first 3-pointer of the day, giving the Owls their first lead of the contest at 13-11. The Roadrunners tacked on four more to close out the first, leading 17-13. Shots just wouldn’t fall for the Owls in the second quarter, as UTSA outscored Florida Atlantic 17-6 through the end of the first half as the Roadrunners led 34-19 heading into the locker room. The Owls scored four unanswered to open the second half, cutting the deficit to just 11, 34-23. Florida Atlantic kept the deficit within 11 through the 51-second mark of the third. The Roadrunners tacked on four to push the lead back to 54-39, but Devyn Scott drew a 3-point foul before the buzzer to knock down three free throws and bring the Owls within 12 entering the final 10 minutes of play. Scott opened the fourth with her second triple of the day to bring the Owls back within single digits at 54-45, but UTSA responded with a 15-3 run to give the Road runners a 21-point lead with 5:53 to go, 69-48. Florida Atlantic outscored UTSA 12-7 over the remainder of the contest, but the Owls just couldn’t overcome the deficit as UTSA eventually claimed the 76-60 contest. HEAD COACH JENNIFER SULLIVAN POSTGAME THOUGHTS “Tough game. We knew going in that the physicality was going to be a problem for us. Unfortunately, just couldn’t hit shots earlier, and the rebounding was just bad. I thought we hung with them on the boards at our place, but to get outrebounded the way we did today, it’s just hard to overcome that. Excited to have a couple players back and we will work to regroup and get ready for Wednesday.” NOTES AND TEAM STATS Devyn Scott and Mya Perry led the Owls in the contest Scott tallied a team-high 16 points, shooting (5-of-7) from the field, 50 percent (2-of-3) from 3-point range, and a perfect 100 percent (4-of-4) at the line. She also added two assists and a steal. Mya Perry finished with 10 points, shooting 50 percent (3-of-6) from the field, 33 percent (1-of-3) from beyond the arc, and going 3-of-5 from the line, and tallying a block. Janeta Rozentale led the Owls on the boards, pulling down a team-high six. The Owls outscored the Roadrunners 23-20 in the third quarter and also held an 11-9 advantage in fastbreak points. UP NEXT The Owls return home on Wednesday as they host the Tulane Green Wave for a midweek matchup inside Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
