WBB: Hot Shooting Leads UAB to 88-49 Victor Over Miles

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women’s basketball team scored a season-high in points and drained 13 3-pointers in its 88-49 victory over Miles on Tuesday night.

The Blazers (6-1) were led by Lyndsey Robson, who scored a season-best 17 points including four 3-pointers. Desiree Ware scored a career-high 15 points in 19 minutes of play and Maria Roters added 11 for UAB, which is off to its best start since the 2012-13 season.

Iemyiah Harris led Miles (5-2) with 15 points.

The Blazers led wire-to-wire, jumping out to a 12-point lead at the 3:20 mark of the 1st quarter at 16-4. Ware’s 3-pointer midway through the 2nd quarter put UAB ahead by 20 points at 35-15. They would take a 41-22 advantage into halftime.

An 11-2 run in the 3rd quarter would give the Blazers a 28-point lead with 3:18 left. Destinee McGhee’s free throw with 25 seconds left in regulation closed out the scoring and gave UAB its largest lead of the game at 39 points.

The Blazer defense shut down the Miles outside game, allowing two 3-pointers on 24 attempts (8.3%). The Lady Bears were 19-of-71 from the field (26.8%).

“With school being over for the semester, it is nice to get a game in where everybody got minutes and got to play,” said head coach Randy Norton.

All 13 dressed players saw time with 12 scoring.

“I definitely think we will be much sharper and look a lot better this Saturday.”

The Blazers remain at Bartow Arena to face Mississippi Valley State on Dec. 17 before starting Conference USA play on Dec. 19 at Charlotte. The nonconference season ends on Dec. 21 against Alcorn State at Bartow.
