Walker Earns Preseason American Athletic All-Conference Nod 
The first team all-conference selection from 2018 enters her senior season and second with the Bulls with over 1,000 career kills

TAMPA, AUG. 22, 2019 – Senior outside hitter Jac’cara Walker was named to the preseason American Athletic All-Conference team, as voted on by the league coaches.

Walker (Gainesville, Fla.) earned first team all-conference honors in her first year as a Bull in 2018. She finished fourth in The American with 394 kills and led USF with 15 double-doubles.

USF was picked to finish sixth in the league standings. UCF was picked to finish first, followed by Cincinnati and Tulane. Tulsa and SMU round out the top five. The top six finishers during the regular season will get a chance to play in the inaugural American Athletic Conference Tournament, Nov. 22-24 in Orlando. The league will be split into two divisions for the 2019 season, as the top team from each division will receive a first-round bye.

The Bulls will have two exhibitions beginning with the annual Green & Gold scrimmage on Thursday, followed by a home matchup against FGCU on Saturday. The regular season gets served on Aug. 30 with a pair of contests in Muncie, Ind. USF opens against UAB, followed by Ball State. The Bulls’ home opener is Sept. 10 against North Florida.

In addition to Walker, USF returns a plethora of young, yet experienced talent. Sophomore libero CC Clausen (The Woodlands, Texas) had 526 digs in 2018, the fifth most in USF’s single-season history. Sophomore setter Lauren LaBeck (Chicago) had 474 assists last year, averaging 34.4 over the final seven matches. Fellow sophomore Lindsey Pliapol (Daytona Beach, Fla.) finished fourth on the team last season with 221 kills and played in all 32 matches. Redshirt junior middle blocker Nyemba Musemuna (Avon, Ind.) had a breakout 2018 with career highs of 106 kills and 91 blocks.

Head coach Courtney Draper led her team to 20 wins in 2018, the most in her time at USF and the most for the program since 2002. The Bulls appeared in the NIVC, the program’s first postseason trip since 2002. Senior outside hitter Jac’cara Walker led USF with 394 kills and recorded her 1000thcareer kill during the 2018 year, on her way to earning first team All-American Athletic Conference honors. USF returns four starters, including its libero, while welcoming 9 newcomers to the fray in 2019 in the form of two transfers and seven freshmen.
