Residents of Oakland Park are preparing for hurricane season.
Oakland Park volunteers recently came together to help residents prepare for hurricane season. The group of volunteers assembled over 1,000 hurricane preparedness kits for distribution throughout the community. Just a few days later, five volunteer drivers helped deliver kits directly to vulnerable residents across Oakland Park.
The effort helped make preparedness resources more accessible to residents who may face barriers getting supplies on their own. Hurricane kits were included in the city’s monthly food deliveries to nearly 250 homebound and low-income residents, helping ensure they had important supplies on hand before the start of hurricane season.
The city also provided over 100 kits to Light of the World Clinic to help extend preparedness resources to underserved individuals and families in the area. Each kit represented more than emergency supplies. It represented care, planning, and neighbors helping neighbors. The City of Oakland Park thanks the volunteers, drivers, and community partners who helped make the distribution possible. Their efforts support a safer, better-prepared community and help ensure residents have the resources they need when severe weather threatens the area.
