Volleyball – Sharks Honor Senior Class, Defeat Eckerd in SSC Play

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – In a matchup of two of the top-five teams in the Sunshine State Conference, the Nova Southeastern Sharks volleyball team won their third consecutive match by defeating the Eckerd Tritons in four-sets on Saturday night from the Rick Case Arena. Nadia Lindner surpassed 20 kills for the fifth-time on the 2023 season for the Sharks, recording 21 in the effort.  

Prior to the match, Nova Southeastern Athletics honored the 2023 Volleyball Senior Class of Nyah PacelyNadia LindnerJulia Bernardes and Madison Cook with a senior night ceremony.

How it Happened
  • The match began as a back-and-forth affair between the Sharks and Tritons, as the first set was tied at 8-8 following a kill from Nadia Lindner.  
  • Eckerd rallied for a three-point run, taking a 11-8 lead over the Sharks, but kills from Olivia AniolTaylor Stockman and Kate Mihacevich once again tied the set at 13-13.  
  • Eckerd took the first set 25-20 over Nova Southeastern.  
  • In the second set, with the score tied at 4-4, Lindner and Stockman sparked a 6-0 rally by NSU, putting the Sharks ahead 10-4. During the rally, Stockman totaled four points, tallying three kills and adding a block alongside Aniol.  
  • Stockman continued to make an impact for NSU, once again leading an extended rally by the Sharks, as Nova Southeastern extended its lead to 15-6 over the Tritons.  
  • Late in the second set, Aniol bookended a three-point rally by the Sharks, as Nova Southeastern led 21-13 over Eckerd.  
  • A service error by the Tritons ended the second set, as the Sharks tied the match with a 25-16 win.  
  • Nova Southeastern snatched all the momentum in the third set, opening the frame on a 6-0 run. The rally featured a block from Brittany Landrum and Lindner, a block from Aniol and Madison Cook, and a pair of kills from Lindner.  
  • The Sharks held the Tritons at bay for much of the set, however, Eckerd rallied to tie the third frame at 21-21.  
  • NSU was not fazed by the Tritons rally, as both Landrum and Lindner tallied kills to help give the Sharks a 2-1 match lead with a 25-22 third set win.  
  • Nova Southeastern maintained their momentum after closing out the third set with a 4-1 rally, by starting the fourth frame on a 7-1 run. The Sharks received contributions from Lindner, Stockman and Aniol during the run.  
  • Later in the set, Kate Mihacevich added a kill and sparked a 5-0 run by the Sharks and extended the lead to 15-6 over Eckerd.  
  • On her senior day, Lindner sealed the Sharks 11th home win of the season by recording the final two points of the contest with a kill and a service ace, as Nova Southeastern defeated Eckerd 25-13.

We were very efficient offensively and had one of our best defensive performances of the year in sets 2-4.
