SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The University of Miami volleyball team (12-6, 3-4) swept the Syracuse Orange (12-7, 0-7), in a dominant 3-0 fashion on Friday night in the Women’s Gym.
The Hurricanes claimed 36 kills, 56 digs, 10 blocks and seven aces. Junior Flormarie Heredia Colon led the team with 11 kills and four blocks, while senior Ashley Carr tallied five blocks and five kills.
Miami started with a strong 11-5 lead after Heredia Colon, sophomore Grace Lopez and sophomore Ava Carney all earned a pair of kills. The team kept the momentum as they hit .381 and notched four aces for the opening set, 25-15.
The Hurricanes once again kicked things off with a 13-6 advantage after seven kills. Junior Dalia Wilson claimed her second block in set two to give Miami the 19-10 lead, before the 3-0 run after a block and two kills. Redshirt freshman Ariana Rodriguez tallied her second kill for the 25-13 set-two win.
Syracuse opened with power in the third set, going on a 10-3 run. The Hurricanes gained some power back after a 6-1 run with junior Milana Moisio behind the service line and Heredia Colon with two more kills to only trail 15-12. Miami regained the lead after another 7-1 run and secured set three, 25-22.
The Hurricanes will face Boston College on Oct. 20 in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
