USF’s Laura Pellicer Receives ITA Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award

The Bulls’ team receives ITA Community Service Award Honorable Mention

Tampa, Fla. (June 12, 2023) – Senior Laura Pellicer has been named as the recipient of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award for the Southeast Region.

The ITA/Cissie Leary Award for Sportsmanship goes to a Division I women’s player who displays inspiring dedication and commitment to her team, which has enhanced her team’s performance and exemplified the spirit of college tennis. It dates back to 1997 and is in memory of the late and widely admired Penn women’s tennis coach Cissie Leary.

Pellicer posted a 49-38 record in singles during her collegiate career and logged 33 wins in doubles (33-44). In her senior season, she complied an 11-9 singles record and added seven doubles wins, including a win in the AAC Conference Championship. She had her best season during her freshman campaign when she was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and earned All-Conference honors after posting a 14-8 singles record and an 8-8 mark in doubles.

As a team, the Bulls received ITA Community Service Award Honorable Mention for the Southeast Region.

The ITA Community Service Award honors a team that gives back to their campus and their community through tennis and non-tennis pathways.

The Bulls excelled on and off the court in the 2002-23 season. They finished 13-9 and earned the No. 3 seed and a bye in the first round of the AAC Tournament. In the classroom, the women’s tennis program led all women’s teams with a 3.69 spring term GPA while placing nine members on the Honor Roll. Women’s tennis also led all programs with a 3.61 cumulative GPA.
