USF’s Corrick Repeats as The American Pitcher of the Week

Corrick tallied her third straight selection with a 4-0 weekend at the USF Tournament


TAMPA, FLA. March 9, 2020 – USF junior pitcher Georgina Corrick was selected as American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the third consecutive week, the conference announced on Monday. This is the second time in her career that she’s earned the award in three straight weeks. 

Corrick opened her weekend pitching in relief against UMass on Friday. In 1.2 innings pitched, she struck out three and earned the victory in the Bulls’ first game of the weekend. Later that night, Corrick made her first start of the week, pitching a complete-game shutout against Iowa State, where she struck out eight and only allowed two hits.

On Saturday, Corrick earned a start and went the distance against Wisconsin. Throwing almost 175 pitches, the Sanford, Fla., native tied the program record for single-game strikeouts with 18. Erica Nunn previously tossed 18 against Tulsa in 2014. Corrick’s previous single-game high was 16 against Tulsa on March 22, 2019.

Corrick wrapped up the weekend with another win over Iowa State. In her third complete game of the weekend, Corrick threw eight strikeouts and only allowed six hits.

Overall, the junior threw 23.2 innings while only allowing two earned runs, tallying a 0.59 ERA. She also accumulated 37 strikeouts and moved up into a tie for No. 6 on USF’s all-time victories list.

Brooke Leistl (Valrico, Fla.) was also named to The American’s Weekly Honor Roll. The redshirt junior went 10-for-14 in five games, hitting with a .714/.714/.786 slash, while also scoring four runs and stealing two bases.
