USF’s Bruni Named Senior CLASS Award Candidate

AnaMarie Bruni was selected as one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award

TAMPA, Feb. 18, 2020 – University of South Florida softball senior AnaMarie Bruni was selected as a candidate for the 2020 Senior CLASS Award, the organization announced Tuesday. The award is given annually to seniors who meet certain qualifications both on and off the field.

The Senior CLASS Award is given each year to a senior at a NCAA Division I institution who is going to exhaust their eligibility at the end of the current sports season. The senior must demonstrate notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The candidate pool will be narrowed down to 10 finalists later in the regular season. The 10 finalists will be placed on an official ballot that will then be distributed in a national voting system to media, coaches and fans. You can view the entire 30 candidate field HERE.

The award winner will be announced during the 2020 NCAA Women’s College World Series in June.

Bruni is the lone candidate from the American Athletic Conference.

“AnaMarie has worked really hard to develop herself during her last three years here with us, not only through the player-development side, but also academically and just as a person herself,” said interim head coach Jessica Moore. “It’s really cool to see her be honored in a way to show that all that hard work and personal development has paid off.”

In addition to being a leader on the team, Bruni has taken steps to supplement her normal leadership experiences while at USF. She is a participant in the athletic department’s Student-Athlete Leadership Academy, which prepares student-athletes for success in athletics, academics and life beyond their collegiate playing careers.

The Schwenksville, Pa., native has been one of the team’s top competitors over the course of her collegiate career. Bruni has amassed a career batting average of over .328, adding 53 stolen bases, 30 RBI and 194 putouts with only eight errors.

Bruni, a health sciences major, has been a staple on the AAC All-Academic team. She has also earned a spot on the USF Athletic Department’s Honor Roll in each semester that the designation has been awarded.
