USF’s Bergstrom Named Division I PING All-America Honorable Mention

The American’s Freshman of the Year set numerous USF season records, including scoring average (70.0) and rounds of par or better (24) prior to becoming the 18th All-America honoree in program history.

Bergstrom previously was named to the Division I All-Freshmen Team and the Division I PING All-Southeast Region Team after leading the Bulls in their seventh consecutive NCAA Regional appearance.

TAMPA, JUNE 20, 2019 – USF’s Albin Bergstrom has been named a Division I PING All-America honorable mention following his record-breaking freshman season with the Bulls.

Bergstrom became the 18th All-America honoree in program history when PING All-America teams were announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Thursday.

“It’s great recognition for a stellar freshman year. He will always be able to say that he was an All-American,” head coach Steve Bradley said. “I’m happy for him and proud of his accomplishments this past season as a Bull.”

The American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year previously was named to the Division I All-Freshmen Team and the Division I PING All-Southeast Region Team after setting numerous single-season program records, including scoring average (70.0) and rounds of par or better (24).

The Ljunghusen, Sweden native earned American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and all-conference honors, both in unanimous fashion, prior to shining in the Bulls’ seventh consecutive NCAA Regional appearance. Bergstrom secured his seventh top-10 finish out of 11 team events in USF’s season finale and carded 16 total rounds in the 60s throughout the year.

The member of Sweden’s junior national team also led USF with nine top-25 finishes and reached another new program milestone during his individual title win. Bergstrom set the program’s new 54-hole scoring record for a par-72 tournament with a 15-under 201 in a nine-shot victory at the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate on March 5.

Bergstrom finished the season as the third-highest ranked freshman in the nation, moving up to No. 37 in the Golfstat rankings released on June 2. Bergstrom also helped USF’s freshman class rank second nationally on Golfstat’s Top Frosh list.
