USF Women’s Hoops Heads Back on the Road to Face Wichita State

The Bulls look for their fourth win in the last six games.

TAMPA (Jan. 21, 2020) – USF heads back on the road – and to America’s Heartland for the second time in the last four games – to face Wichita State on Wednesday. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET (ADN). The Bulls are looking for their fourth win in the last six games, and to improve to 3-2 in The American.

– After playing four of the last seven on the road, Wednesday marks the lone road game that USF will play in its next three outings … The Bulls will face Tulane (Jan. 26) and Houston (Jan. 29) at home. 

– USF is coming off a tough 64-57 loss to UCF on Jan. 19 in game one of the War on I-4 … Elisa Pinzan led the way with a career-high-tying 23 points and Bethy Mununga added 12 points and nine rebounds in the loss to the Knights.

– Bethy Mununga comes into Wednesday’s game averaging just shy of a double-double in the 15 games she has played this season … She missed three games – Idaho, Mississippi State and UNLV – with a hamstring injury … Her 10.7 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per outing are second and first on the team, respectively, and her rebounds per game average is third in The American, through Jan. 19 … She has scored in double figures in nine of the 15 games played, including career highs of 16 points at Baylor (Nov. 19), against Brown (Dec. 30) and Cincinnati (Jan. 3) … She’s shooting 50.8 percent (65-for-128) from the field on the year.

– Mununga has recorded a double-double in six of the 15 games she has played in … She has grabbed double-digit rebounds in eight games this season.

– Sydni Harvey is starting to get back to her old self after missing the first 10 games of the season due to a leg injury … Harvey is third on the team in scoring, averaging 10.6 points per game, and has scored double figures in three of the last four games played, with 18 points against Cincinnati on Jan. 5, 20 points at Tulsa on Jan. 12 and 19 points at Temple on Jan. 16 … She set a career high for three-point shots made in a game with six at Tulsa (6-for-7) on Jan. 16.

– Elisa Pinzan is coming off a career high tying 23-point effort against UCF on Jan. 19 … She shot 53.3 percent (8-for-15) from the field and 58.3 percent (7-for-12) from behind the three-point arc … She set career-highs with eight field goals and seven three-point shots made against the Knights … Pinzan also had a season-high 14 points against No. 2/2 Baylor on Nov. 19 on 5-for-14 (32.7 percent) shooting from the field, and 4-of-7 (57.1 percent) from behind the arc … Despite missing five games – Idaho, Mississippi State, UNLV, Brown and Cincinnati – due to an ankle injury, she continued to lead the team in assists per game, and is currently dishing out 4.7 per outing … Pinzan handed out seven assists in back-to-back games, at Tulsa on Jan. 12 and at Temple on Jan. 16, in the two games back following her injury.

– Tamara Henshaw, second on the team in rebounding, comes into the game at Wichita State with 816 career rebounds, reaching the 800-rebound plateau with her seven boards against Cincinnati on Jan. 5 … She is now just seven rebounds shy of joining Nalini Miller (2003-07) in seventh all-time at USF with 823.

– Henshaw is 11th in the AAC in rebounds per game, grabbing 7.2 per outing, through Jan. 19.

SCOUTING WICHITA STATE

– Wichita State comes into its game with USF with an 11-7 overall record, and a 3-2 mark in The American, following its last-second, 72-70 win over Temple on Jan. 19 … The Shockers have won their last three games, and four of their last six.

– The Shockers have just one player averaging in double figures, Mariah McCully netting 12.8 points per game … Seraphine Bastin and Carla Bremaud are second and third, respectively, averaging 8.6 and 8.1 points per game … Shyai Smith is the team leader on the boards, grabbing 5.4 rebounds per game.
 
THE SERIES AGAINST THE SHOCKERS
– Wednesday will mark just the fourth meeting between USF and Wichita State with the Shockers holding a slight 2-1 series lead, dating back to the 1982-83 season … The series, however, is tied with both schools as members of The American.
