USF Women’s Golf Finishes Season at NCAA Regional

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLA., MAY 10, 2023 – The USF women’s golf team, making their first NCAA Regional appearance since 2012, saw their record-setting season come to an end with an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Palm Beach Regional.

The Bulls, who finished ahead of two ranked teams, were not able to sustain momentum from a good start and fell short in their quest for the fifth appearance in the NCAA Championship round.

In the first round, the Bulls recorded a five-over par 293 and followed up with an eight-over 296 in the second round. The Bulls closed out with a 16-over 304 in the final round.

Junior Melanie Green (Medina, N.Y.) led the Bulls. Green finished tied for 14th place at three over par. She opened with even par rounds of 72 and closed with a 75. Green finished tied for third in scoring on the par 3’s at -2.

Sophomore Leonor Medeiros (Palmela, Portugal) posted the lowest round field in the second round, firing a three-under 69. Medeiros was the only player to shoot in the 60’s. She finished tied for 19th at five over par, bookending the 69 with a 78 in the first round and 74 in the third round. She finished the tournament tied for fourth with 12 birdies.

Graduate student Lauren Heinlein (Ocala) tied for 43rd place. Heinlein started with a pair of 75’s in the first two rounds. She closed with a final round of 79. She led the Bulls with 35 pars in the tournament.

Sophomore Juliana Camargo (Bogata, Columbia) carded rounds of 75, 80 and 76 to finish tied for 48th at +15. Camargo accounted for two scoring rounds.

Junior Alizee Vidal (Le Gosier, France) contributed two scoring rounds. She shot 74, 77 and 80 to finish in a tie for 48th place.

About USF Women’s Golf

The Bulls are in their sixth season under head coach Erika Brennan in 2022-23. USF is among the fastest rising programs in the country, as they climbed 75 spots in the national Golfstat rankings following Brennan’s first season in 2018-19 and have captured three tournament titles under Brennan, while setting numerous program scoring records under her leadership. Junior standout Melanie Green has been an all-conference performer in each of her first two seasons, reached the 2022 NCAA Regionals as an individual and competed in both the U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Women’s Amateur championships.
