USF Women’s Basketball Lands Ole Miss Forward Caitlin McGee

McGee played in 56 games over two seasons for the Rebels.

TAMPA (April 21, 2022) – University of South Florida head women’s basketball coach Jose Fernandez announced on Thursday that Caitlin McGee will be transferring to South Florida. McGee, who attended Ole Miss for the past three seasons, is expected to make an immediate impact during the 2022-23 campaign. McGee is the third player to sign with the Bulls during the spring signing period, joining former McDonald’s All American and Syracuse transfer, Priscilla Williams, and Finnish guard Janette Aarnio.

“Caitlin brings quality experience coming from the SEC and plays extremely hard on both ends of the floor,” said Fernandez. “I like her versatility as a stretch and her strength defensively and on the boards”

A 6-foot-1 forward, McGee played 56 games over two seasons for the Rebels after redshirting her freshman year. During the 2021-22 campaign, McGee played in all 29 games, posting two double-digit outings, including a career-high 13 points against Mississippi Valley State on perfect 5-of-5 shooting. She also racked up a career-high 10 rebounds at Missouri and had six games with five or more rebounds. In addition, McGee shot 51.3 (41-of-80) percent from the field.

As a redshirt freshman, during the 2020-21 season, McGee shot 44.4 percent (28-of-63) from the field and recorded a career-high three blocked shots in a win over No. 14 Kentucky.

McGee, a three-star rated recruit by ESPN who graduated early from Sandalwood High School in Jacksonville, averaged 18.0 points, 12.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks throughout her first three years of high school. She was named to the Florida Times-Union All-Decade Team and was tabbed a 2018-19 FHSAA First-Team All-State selection. In addition, McGee was a three-time First-Team All-Area and three-time First-Team All-City selection.

This past season, South Florida posted a 24-9 overall record, and a 12-3 mark in the American Athletic Conference, and capped off the season with its eighth NCAA Tournament appearance, and its seventh trip to the Big Dance in the last 10 years.

Included in their 24 wins were victories over No. 9 Oregon, 71-62, in the third-place game of the Inaugural Women’s Battle 4 Atlantis, and a thrilling 57-54 win over defending national champion and No. 7-ranked Stanford.
