USF WBB: South Florida Women’s Basketball Hosts Record Attendance In Win Against Charleston Southern

Tampa, Fla. Nov. 30, 2023 – Senior forward Evelien Lutje Schipholt (season-high 17 points, season-best 11 rebounds) collared her first double-double of the season in South Florida women’s basketball’s (6-3) 81-35 routing of Charleston Southern (1-6) on Thursday at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Fla.

Thursday’s Education Day crowd featured a program-record 9,574 Bulls fans. The record setting crowd was also the highest attended regular season home women’s basketball game in the state of Florida over the last 20 years.

Lutje Schipholt also grabbed a season-best three steals on the day. Senior guard Maria Alvarez (16 points) and sophomore wing Carla Brito (14 points) rounded out the additional pair of Bulls in double figures. Freshman guard Vittoria Blasigh (five assists) and sophomore guard Marina Asensio (five assists) combined for 10 of USF’s 16 total assists.

NOTABLE NUMBERS

  • With the Win the Bulls remain undefeated against the Buccaneers and continue to hold a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series.
  • Lutje Schipholt has nine double-doubles on her career.
  • Additional Attendance Note: It is the second-largest regular-season WBB game in Florida on record. (Florida holds the record of 12,222 on Feb. 11, 2001).
  • Junior forward L’or Mputu added a career-best nine points and personal-high four blocked shots.
  • Freshman guard Judit Valero Rodriguez contributed a personal-high eight points.

In 2022-23, the Bulls had four players recognized by The American for impressive seasons, including Elena Tsineke (AAC Co-Player of the Year, All-Conference First Team), Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu (AAC Co-Player of the Year, All-Conference First Team), Sammie Puisis (AAC Newcomer of the Year, All-Conference Second Team) and Carla Brito (AAC All-Freshman Team).
