Tampa, Fla. Feb. 6, 2024 – South Florida women’s basketball (14-9, 6-4) welcomes Rice (12-9, 6-4) inside the Yuengling Center on Wednesday night. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. and the game will stream live on ESPN+.

SETTING THE STAGE

The Bulls are looking to continue stampeding, as they return to the Yuengling Center as winners of three straight contests.

The Owls fly into Tampa as victors of three of their last five games. On Wednesday, Rice toped SMU, 69-60, in Houston.

THE SOUTH FLORIDA-RICE SERIES

Wednesday’s clash will be the 3rd all-time pairing between the two programs, which extends back to the 1989-90 season. The series is currently knotted, 1-1. The last meeting was a 67-64 Owls victory on Jan. 14, 2024, a month ago.

LAST TIME OUT

South Florida beat UAB, 72-69, on the road Saturday. Freshman guard Vittoria Blasigh led all scorers with 21 points and has collared 16 games in double-digit points along with five 20-plus point performances on the season. Redshirt junior forward Romi Levy added 18 points, marking her 14th double-digit season performance. Sophomore wing Carla Brito’s 15 points is the most she has scored in a game this season since 11 points against Baylor (Dec. 21) in the West Palm Classic.

BULL LEADERS

South Florida is led by freshman guard Vittoria Blasigh (14.9 ppg). Blasigh (62 3PM) is leads all NCAA Freshman in total 3-pointers made. Blasigh earned her 5th AAC FOTW honor, and is the first Bull to earn it five times in a single season. Redshirt junior forward Romi Levy (13.0 ppg) is the second Bull averaging double-digit points. Levy has been tabbed as an Honor Roll selection three times this season. Senior forward Evelien Lutje Schipholt leads on the glass with 7.2 rebounds per contest, which ranks 10th in the American. Redshirt senior guard Aerial Wilson dishes out a team-best 4.1 assists per contest. Wilson’s 94 total assists ranks fourth in the American. Wilson (441 career assists) is a single assist from tying 10th on the all-time AAC Career Total Assists ledger.

PROMOTIONS

The game is the program’s annual Play4Kay game, featuring a giveaway of 500 Pink Rally Towels for students. Wednesday’s contest has been tabbed an American Hoops showcase game, which featured enhanced coverage on ESPN+. In celebration of National Girls & Women in Sports Day, the broadcast features an all-female production and talent crew.

AAC BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TICKETS

For the fourth consecutive year, The American’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will be contested at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Both Championships expand to 14 teams this season with The Women’s Championship running March 9-13. Ticket packages for the Women’s Championship will be $85 per package. South Florida women’s basketball recorded its 11th 20-win season during the 2022-23 campaign. USF has made 18 postseason tournament appearances and had nine NCAA Tournament berths in head coach Jose Fernandez’s 23 seasons. The all-time winningest coach in program history, Fernandez has guided USF to 11 20-win seasons, two WNIT final four appearances, the 2009 WNIT championship, has won over 400 career games, and is the all-time wins leader in the American Athletic Conference.

In 2022-23, the Bulls had four players recognized by The American for impressive seasons, including Elena Tsineke (AAC Co-Player of the Year, All-Conference First Team), Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu (AAC Co-Player of the Year, All-Conference First Team), Sammie Puisis (AAC Newcomer of the Year, All-Conference Second Team) and Carla Brito (AAC All-Freshman Team).
