Tampa, Fla. – Jan. 3, 2024 – South Florida women’s basketball (9-6, 2-0 AAC) welcomes Temple (8-5, 2-0 AAC) to the Yuengling Center on Saturday, Jan. 4 for the Annual Dog Adoption Awareness Game. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. and the action will stream live on ESPN+.

SETTING THE STAGE

The Bulls are on the hunt for their fifth straight victory, and their third victory in league play. The Owls enter on a two-game win streak and are also looking to stay undefeated in conference action.

DOG ADOPTION AWARENESS

For the program’s annual Dog Adoption Awareness Game, 15 agencies and vendors will be out on the concourse of the Yuengling Center between gates A & B. Dogs will be available for adoption. USF Women’s Basketball is also hosting a donation drive and items will be accepted and distributed to shelters in need. Acceptable donation items include: Beds, Food, Unused toys, Towels, Crates, Leashes, Puppy pads, Treats, Amazon gift cards, and Chewy gift cards. 
 

THE SOUTH FLORIDA-TEMPLE SERIES

Saturday is the 22nd meeting between the two squads. The last clash was a 59-55 loss at Temple. (Feb. 10, 2024).

BEST OF THE BULLS

The Bulls are led by graduate guard Sammie Puisis (15.1 ppg.) & sophomore guard Vittoria Blasigh (10.5 ppg.) Puisis is ranked 9th in the nation with 45 total 3-pointers made and 12th in 3FG Made Per Game (3.00 3FGM). Junior forward Carla Brito holds a team best 7.0 rebound average. (9th in the American). Graduate guard Mama Dembele is USF’s top assister with 5.4 apg. (81 total assists ranked 17th nationally). In the latest NCAA Nitty Gritties Report, South Florida is ranked 7th NET SOS and 70th in the NET.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

Sammie Puisis & Vittoria Blasigh are shooting a combined of 86.7% of USF’s made 3-pointers this season, the highest of any combined duo in DI. Against Rice, Sammie Puisis recorded her sixth career game at USF with at least 20 points and zero turnovers. That is tied for the second most by any Bulls player this century (Courtney Williams) behind Jessica Dickson (eight). Mama Dembele has 41 assists and 30 steals over her last eight games. The last USF player to have at least 40 assists and 30 steals over an eight-game span was Andrell Smith during the 2012-13 season. The Bulls have held their opponents to under 40.0 percent from the field in eight of nine home games this season. In December 2024, L’or Mputu shot 63.6 percent from the field (21-for-33) and had 38 rebounds. The only other USF player this century to have at least a 60.0 field-goal percentage (min. 30 att) and 35 boards in a single December was Jessica Lawson in 2009.
