USF WBB: Bull’s Stampede Wichita State, 79-57

Tampa, Fla. –  Feb. 13, 2024 – Redshirt junior Romi Levy led all scorers with 28 points and eight rebounds in South Florida women’s basketball’s (15-11, 7-6) 79-57 win against Wichita State (7-18, 3-10) on Wednesday night at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Fla.

Sophomore forward Daniela Gonzalez (15 points) joined Levy as the second Bull to finish the night with double-digit points. Levy has collected seven 20-plus point performances this season and Gonzalez notched her fourth double-figure performance of the season. Senior guard Aerial Wilson dished out a game-high seven assists.

HOW THE GAME WAS DEICED

The Bulls strung together a massive 31-6 run throughout the first frame and nearly two minutes into the second quarter. USF knocked down 11 field goals during that time, shooting over fifty percent from the floor. Levy had almost half of the Bull’s points with 14 in the run. Eight minutes before the break the Bulls lead 31-6.

Down the stretch, USF’s lead ballooned as high as 35 points. The Bulls went on a small unanswered eight-point run with a minute to go in the third quarter, which was capped off by a 3-pointer from Gonzalez. The triple widened the gap to 35 and South Florida led Wichita State, 66-31, and held on for the win in the final frame.

NOTABLE NUMBERS

  • South Florida holds an 8-3 all-time record against Wichita State and is undefeated (4-0) at home against the Shockers.
  • The Bulls spent exactly 39:41 with the lead in tonight’s contest.
  • USF led Wichita State in fast break points (14-9), second chance points (14-7), and points in the paint (34-28).
  • The Shockers Jayla Murray (11 points), Salese Blow (11 points), and Sierra Morrow (11 points) put up a combined 33 points for the visitors.

South Florida hosts Florida Atlantic on Saturday, Feb. 17 inside the Yuengling Center. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. and the game will stream live on ESPN+.
