USF Volleyball: Cvitkovic Reaches Milestone in Loss at Tulsa

TULSA, OK, October 27, 2023 – Senior outside hitter Marta Cvitkovic (Rijeka, Croatia) recorded her 1,000th career kill in the University of South Florida volleyball team’s (13-9, 7-4 AAC) loss to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (12-12, 5-7 AAC) on Friday night.  

The Bulls lost with scores of 11-25, 21-25, and 21-25.  

Sophomore outside hitters Maria Clara Andrade (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Buse Hazan (Istanbul, Turkey) led the Bulls with 14 kills. Cvitkovic followed with six. Andrade led the Bulls with 17 digs, while Miya Thomas (Gainesville) followed with 10.  

South Florida fell behind early in the opening set and couldn’t bounce back. Tulsa took the early 1-0 lead in the match.  

The Bulls took their first lead of the match after going on an early 4-0 run to take the 4-3 lead. After the Golden Hurricane retook the lead, the Bulls kept it close. Tulsa closed out the second set with a 4-1 run. 

Cvitkovic tied the third set at four with her 1,000th career kill. It was a battle throughout the rest of the set, both teams tying six more times. A late 6-1 run by the Golden Hurricane gave them the lead they needed to cruise to the match win.  

NOTABLES 

  • Andrade recorded her sixth double-double of the season.  
  • Hazan improves to 13 straight matches with double-digit kills.  
  • Caroline Dykes (Flower Mound, Texas) dished out 28 assists.  

UP NEXT 

South Florida will head to the Lone Star state to take on the AAC leaders, SMU Mustangs on Sunday. The first serve is set for 2 p.m. (E.T.)
