USF Volleyball: Bulls Drop to Owls in Four Sets

BOCA RATON, FLA., November 16, 2023 – The University of South Florida volleyball team (17-11, 11-6 AAC) fell to the Florida Atlantic Owls (19-11, 11-6 AAC) on Thursday night.   

The Bulls lost with scores of 18-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-27.  

Buse Hazan (Istanbul, Turkey) led the Bulls with 18 kills. Maria Clara Andrade (Sao Paulo, Brazil) followed with 10. She also finished with 14 digs. Caroline Dykes (Flower Mound, Texas) dished out 35 assists. Hazan and Niki Khoshatefeh (Temecula, Calif.) each had a solo block.  

South Florida fell behind early in the opening set, with the Florida Atlantic taking a 10-3 lead. The Bulls closed the gap to three with a 4-0 scoring run, but the Owls closed out set one.  

The Bulls jumped to a 3-0 lead before the Owls answered with three. A late 7-3 run gave the Green and Gold the 21-14 lead. The Owls put some pressure on the Bulls, but a Florida Atlantic error gave South Florida the second-set win.  

Florida Atlantic took a 15-12 lead in the third set. The Bulls tried to come back but the Owls cruised through the end of the set to take a 2-1 lead in the match.  

The final set was a battle, with both teams trading points at the end. The Owls took the final set 27-25.  

UP NEXT 

The Bulls will close out the regular season road tests tomorrow at 2 p.m. as they take on Florida Atlantic.
