USF student-athletes post GPA over 3.0 for record 10th straight term

251 Student-Athletes Earn Athletics Honor Roll Accolades in the Fall;

Bulls post record cumulative GPA after fall term

TAMPA, JANUARY 16, 2020 – USF Athletics saw 251 of its 416 student-athletes earn Athletics Honor Roll accolades following the 2019 fall term as Athletics posted a term grade-point average over 3.0 for a record 10th straight term.

USF saw 15 of its 17 teams post a fall term GPA over 3.0 and 270 student-athletes (65 percent) earn a cumulative 3.0 GPA average or better. The Bulls had 39 student-athletes post a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall term and 153 log a 3.5 or better.

The department logged a combined fall term GPA of 3.13 to extended its record string of consecutive term GPAs, which dates to the spring of 2015. The Bulls also combined for a cumulative GPA of 3.16 after the fall semester, marking the third straight term in which Athletics posted a record for cumulative GPA.

The football and women’s track and field and cross country teams led the way on the fall Honor Roll with 35 student-athletes from each program earning the academic recognition. The conference champion women’s soccer team placed 27 members on the honor roll, while the conference champion women’s softball team had 22 as did the sailing team. The conference champion men’s tennis team had six.

The men’s cross country and track and field team had 19 members earn honor roll recognition, while the men’s soccer team had 18, baseball 17, volleyball 14, women’s basketball 12, women’s tennis eight, women’s golf seven, men’s basketball five and men’s golf with four.

USF had 21 student-athletes earn degrees following the fall semester and has seen more than 300 earn their degree in the last four years.

USF Athletics sponsors 19 varsity men’s and women’s teams that compete in 11 different sports, 18 at the NCAA Division I level in the American Athletic Conference. The Bulls’ athletic program began in 1965 and is in its 54th season in 2019-20. Nearly 450 student-athletes train and compete in the athletic district located on the east end of the campus in Tampa, Fla. The Bulls have claimed 19 American Athletic Conference team titles since joining the conference in 2013, and own 120 conference titles overall. Eleven USF programs reached national postseason competition in the 2018-19 season and six were ranked in the Top 25 nationally. The Bulls posted a combined annual grade-point average over 3.0 for the fourth straight year in 2018-19 and have posted a program record 10 straight semesters with a combined GPA over 3.0. USF has had 309 student-athletes earn their degree since 2016-17.
