USF SOFTBALL: Weather Suspends Play in Doubleheader Against Tulsa

After Tulsa won game one, weather ended play in the fifth inning of game two

TAMPA, Fla. April 10, 2021 – After losing game one to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, 7-2, nature intervened to stop game two before it was able to be completed on Saturday afternoon. Play will resume in the game, which was tied at 1-1 in the middle of the fifth, tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.

AnaMarie Bruni (Schwenksville, Pa.) finished 3-for-4 at the plate in game one while also scoring a run. Alexis Johns (Sarasota, Fla.) scored the Bulls’ other run, while Kyndall Williams (Trenton, Fla.) and Josie Foreman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) tallied RBIs.

Game One – Tulsa 7, USF 2

The Bulls struck first, with Johns scoring on a sacrifice fly from Foreman in the first inning. Tulsa took the lead two innings later, with Alexis Perry driving home two runs on a single to make the score 2-1.

USF tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third as Williams doubled home Bruni. Tulsa opened the game in the sixth, with five runs crossing home via four hits and an error in the top of the inning. The Bulls couldn’t find the equalizer, giving the Golden Hurricane a 7-2 victory.

Game Two – USF 1, Tulsa 1 (Suspended in the middle of the 5th due to weather)

Both starters from Friday’s game earned the start in the circle in game two of the doubleheader. A pitching duel ensued, with both allowing only one run through the four and a half innings of play.

Bethaney Keen (Bradenton, Fla.) singled home Johns in the third inning, giving USF the 1-0 lead. Tulsa tied the game in the top of the fifth, as a run crossed home on a ground out. Weather then entered the area forcing the suspension of the game in the middle of the fifth inning.

Notables

  • Johns, Bruni and Williams combined for seven hits in game one.
  • Johns and Megan Pierro (Lutz, Fla.) stole bases in the first game.

Up Next

Play will resume in the suspended game at 10 a.m. tomorrow, with the series finale being played immediately afterwards. Due to virus mitigation measures and the size of the venue, fan attendance will be limited to team pass list only at USF Softball Stadium. All games in the series will be broadcast on ESPN+.
