USF SOFTBALL: USF’s Win Streak Ends at 13 Games with 4-3 Loss to Houston

A Bulls 7th inning comeback attempt falls short in the loss

TAMPA, Fla. April 2, 2021 – The University of South Florida softball team suffered its first defeat since March 7th with a 4-3 loss to Houston on Saturday. The Bulls move to 16-7 on the season with a 6-1 record in conference play with the series finale on Saturday.

AnaMarie Bruni (Schwenksville, Pa.) went 2-for-4 at the plate in the game. Bethaney Keen (Bradenton, Fla.), Josie Foreman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Bruni all had RBIs.

USF struck first in the opening frame. Keen reached on a single to second base that also scored Alexis Johns (Sarasota, Fla.) to put the Bulls up, 1-0. Houston responded in their half of the inning with a two-run home run off the bat of Britaney Shaw to take the lead.

The Bulls tied the game in the fourth. Foreman doubled home Keen to even the score at 2-2. The Cougars retook the lead in the sixth with another two-run homer, this time from Tierrah Williams.

A seventh-inning comeback attempt fell just short for the Bulls. Four batters into the inning, USF had runners on second and third with two outs. Bruni singled one run home, cutting the score to 4-3, but a strikeout ended the Bulls’ hopes and secured Houston’s win.
