USF Softball Takes Game Two Against Memphis, 9-1

The Bulls earned their second run-rule victory of the weekend


MEMPHIS, Tenn., May 7, 2022 – The University of South Florida softball team (41-13; 11-5 AAC) took a second straight run-rule victory over the Memphis Tigers (16-36; 2-15 AAC), winning 9-1 on a sunny, cool afternoon in Memphis.

Alanah Rivera (St. Petersburg, Fla.) finished perfect at the plate, going three-for-three with two RBIs and scoring two runs. Megan Pierro (Lutz, Fla.) also had a good day on offense, ending the game one-for-one with a double, three RBIs and two walks.

The Bulls jumped ahead early. After loading the bases with no one out, Pierro doubled to right center to give USF a 3-0 lead.

The Bulls added another in the second, with Rivera singled home Dezarae Maldonado (Winter Haven, Fla.), and extended the lead to 5-0 in the third with Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) singling home Pierro.

South Florida extended the lead further in the fourth. Vivian Ponn (Fort Myers, Fla.) singled to center and an error allowed Rivera to score, then Josie Foreman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) doubled home Allana Consolazio (Fort Myers, Fla.) to make the score 7-0.

Memphis got an unearned run back in the fifth, but the Bulls wasted no time in responding in the fifth. Meghan Sheehan (Forest Hill, Md.) hit a sacrifice fly that scored Emilee Hanlon (Dunkirk, N.Y.), then Rivera singled up the middle to cement the scoring at 9-1.

Corrick wrapped up the game, posting her 100th career complete-game and her 33rd win of the season. She struck out 12, bringing her weekend total to 27 of 30 possible outs.

Notables

  • Johns continues to be a menace on the basepaths, stealing her 52nd base of the season.
  • Corrick has more wins this season as she has losses in her career. Overall, she sits at 108-32 in her career.
