USF SOFTBALL: Softball Returns to Action Against North Florida

Bulls battle in weekday doubleheader; Fan Attendance at USF Softball Stadium is via pass list only

TAMPA, FLA. Feb. 17, 2021 – The University of South Florida softball team returns to action after its opening weekend with a weekday doubleheader against the University of North Florida. Game one is scheduled for a 4 p.m. first pitch, while game two is slated for 6:15 p.m.

Due to virus mitigation measures and the size of the venue, fan attendance at USF Softball Stadium is via team pass list only. All regular season home games in the 2021 softball season will be broadcast on the ESPN+ platform.

USF leads the all-time series against the Ospreys, 3-0. In the last meeting, the Bulls defeated UNF 8-0 in five innings on March 18, 2018 in Tampa. USF also has wins in 2009 (5-1) and 2016 (12-1).

Brooke Hartman (Port Orange, Fla.) was named to the American Athletic Conference weekly honor roll for her efforts in the season opener against Florida. In the first game of the season, Hartman went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run, playing a role in all three runs the Bulls scored.

Opponent

North Florida is led on offense by sophomore outfielder Shannon Glover, who has five hits, including three doubles, in 15 at bats so far this season. Junior utility Paige Pfent and sophomore utility Logan Jackson both have .250 batting averages and one RBI. In the circle, freshman Halle Arends leds Osprey pitchers with a 1.05 ERA in 13.1 innings. Junior Morgan Clausen has also handled 12.1 innings, throwing a 1.70 ERA in three appearances.

UNF is led by Marcie Higgs, who is in her 13th season with the Ospreys. She holds a 317-300 record at UNF, as well as a 410-505 record in her 20-year head coaching career, which includes stints at Coppin State and Vermont.

The American Athletic Conference and ESPN began a new 12-year television rights agreement starting in 2020-21. USF will stream numerous home athletic events to ESPN+ this spring.
