TAMPA, FLA.
Feb. 26, 2021 – The University of South Florida softball team continues its non-conference slate by hosting the Florida Atlantic Owls for a three-game series played at the USF Softball Stadium. Game one will be played on Saturday with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch, while games two and three will be played as a doubleheader on Sunday with a 3 p.m. first pitch.

Due to virus mitigation measures and the size of the venue, fan attendance at USF Softball Stadium is via team pass list only. All regular season home games during the 2021 softball season will be broadcast on the ESPN+ platform.

The Bulls hold a 15-5 advantage in the all-time series against the Owls. FAU took the last game in the series with a 2-1 victory in 2013 at USF Softball Stadium. USF’s last victory came in 2006, with a 7-4 win at a neutral site.

Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) was named the American Athletic Conference’s Pitcher of the Week after throwing 13 strikeouts in eight shutout innings against Jacksonville. Corrick moved up to No. 4 on USF’s all-time strikeouts list with 573, passing Lindsey Richardson (2010-13). Jordyn Kadlub’s (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) first collegiate hit was the walk-off home run that gave USF the win in game one. AnaMarie Bruni (Schwenksville, Pa.) claimed sole possession of No. 8 on USF’s career stolen bases list with 64 swipes.

Opponent

Florida Atlantic has started the 2021 season off 2-8 in its first 10 games, with wins coming against Winthrop and Iowa State. The Owls are coming off of a run-rule loss to Missouri on Feb. 21, which capped off a 1-5 weekend for the team at the FAU “Strikeout Cancer” Tournament.

The Owls are led by graduate catcher Kaitlyn Burke, who is hitting with a .370/.393/.593 slash in nine starts. She’s also hit a home run and driven home six runs this year for the team. In the circle, junior Lynn Gardner has handled the bulk of FAU’s innings so far this season. Gardner has a 4.97 ERA in 31 innings. FAU is led by Joan Joyce, who has a 975-620-1 record in 27 seasons.

ESPN+
The American Athletic Conference and ESPN began a new 12-year television rights agreement starting in 2020-21. USF will stream numerous home athletic events to ESPN+ this spring.
