USF Softball Downs No. 7 Oklahoma State, 7-1

The Bulls offense keeps its hot streak alive as Corrick tosses another complete game

CLEARWATER, Fla., Feb. 19, 2022 – The University of South Florida softball team earned a top-10 win with a dominant 7-1 win over No. 7 Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon.

Alexis Johns (Sarasota, Fla.) hit a bases-clearing, three-RBI triple to put the game out of reach, while Dezarae Maldonado (Winter Haven, Fla.) also tallied two RBIs and Josie Foreman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) continued her recent success, going two-for-four with an RBI and a double. Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) threw her third complete game of the young season while earning her fourth win.

The Bulls grabbed the lead first in the second inning, as Maldonado singled home Courtney Waldo (Palmetto, Fla.) to take a 1-0 advantage.

Oklahoma State tied it in the fourth off a solo home run from Chyenne Factor.

South Florida quickly responded in the bottom of the fourth. Foreman led off the inning with a single and advanced to second when Madison Epperson (Tampa, Fla.) walked. Maldonado drove home Foreman with a single to retake a 2-1 lead. Two batters later, Johns tripled with the bases loaded to push the Bulls’ lead to 5-1.

The Bulls’ bats stayed hot in the fifth. Megan Pierro (Lutz, Fla.) reached on a walk, stole second and advanced to third on an error. Epperson drove her home in the next at-bat and reached second on a Maldonado single. Julia Mrochko (Drums, Pa.) pinch-ran for Epperson and scored off a Kadlub single to cap the scoring at 7-1.

Corrick finished the day having only allowed three hits and one walk, alongside six strikeouts.
