USF SOFTBALL: Corrick Sets New USF Career Strikeouts Record as Bulls Beat Canisius

Corrick passes Nevins, who had 1,103 strikeouts, to claim the top spot

TAMPA, Fla., March 22, 2022 – University of South Florida softball pitcher Georgina Corrick added to her collection of records, tossing her 1,104th career strikeout in a 5-0 win against Canisius on Tuesday afternoon. She threw 14 strikeouts during the contest, her ninth double-digit strikeout performance this season and now has 1,113 in her career.

Vivian Ponn (Fort Myers) and Josie Foreman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) continued swinging hot bats in the win, tallying their third and fifth homers of the season, respectively.

Pitchers dueled for most of the contest. Corrick allowed only one hit in the first five innings, striking out 11 batters in that timeframe. Entering the day needing five strikeouts, she threw her record-breaking strikeout against the first batter in the third inning after striking out the side in the first and fanning a batter in the second.

The Bulls offense took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. With a runner on first, Foreman went opposite field for her eighth career home run to put USF on top, 2-0.

South Florida added to their lead in the sixth. Alexis Johns (Sarasota) reached to start the inning and quickly stole second. After being advanced to third on a Megan Pierro (Lutz) groundout, Johns crossed home as Meghan Sheehan (Forest Hill, Md.) singled up the middle. Later in the inning, Ponn crushed a two-run homer to left field, solidifying the score at 5-0.
