USF SOFTBALL: Corrick Breaks Another Record as USF Softball Sweeps Houston

The Bulls took the series finale, 7-0

TAMPA, Fla., May 1, 2022 – The University of South Florida softball team earned its second sweep of the 2022 conference season with a 4-0 win over Houston (24-26-1; 8-9-1 AAC) on Sunday afternoon. It was the Bulls’ (39-13; 9-5 AAC) first sweep at home of the year.

Corrick, who broke four records between the first two games of the series, added another to her total, passing Tulsa’s Emily Watson 2017-win total for the single-season lead with her 31st of the year. Dezarae Maldonado (Winter Haven, Fla.) went three-for-three on the day with two RBIs, while Alanah Rivera (St. Petersburg, Fla.) tallied a career-high three RBIs.

The Bulls struck first in the series finale. With runners on second and third, Sheehan chopped a ball over the head of the third baseman that allowed Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) to score. Later in the inning, Emilee Hanlon (Dunkirk, N.Y.) used a great slide at the plate to beat the tag on an infield grounder to push the score to 2-0.

USF added another pair of runs in the fourth. After Megan Pierro (Lutz, Fla.) hit a lead-off double, Maldonado drove her home with a bloop-single to center. Maldonado later scored herself on an error forced by a stolen base by Alexis Johns (Sarasota, Fla.).

South Florida nearly took a run-rule victory in the sixth. Maldonado drove home Madison Epperson (Tampa, Fla.) to push the score to 5-0. Later in the inning with two outs, Rivera doubled home two runs to cement the score at 7-0.
