USF SOFTBALL: Bulls Stampede Past Notre Dame, 7-0

The Bulls offense exploded for seven runs on 11 hits while Corrick tosses her first complete game shutout of the year

CLEARWATER, Fla., Feb. 18, 2022 – The University of South Florida softball team played well on both sides of the ball to earn a 7-0 victory over Notre Dame (RV) in the team’s opener at the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational.

Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) tossed her first complete-game shutout of the season in the victory. She allowed two hits while striking out nine with only one walk. Josie Foreman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) went three-for-three with an RBI and Megan Pierro (Lutz, Fla.) finished three-for-four with two RBIs.

South Florida took a quick lead to start the game. Alexis Johns (Sarasota, Fla.) led off the game with a single and was advanced on a Sheehan ground out. Alanah Rivera (St. Petersburg, Fla.) was hit by a pitch to follow, and Vivian Ponn (Fort Myers, Fla.) hit an RBI single to right field in the next at-bat to start the scoring as Johns crossed home. Foreman continued her hot bat with a single that drove home Rivera, followed by a Pierro single which scored Ponn, giving USF a 3-0 lead after one.

The Bulls added to their lead in the second. Jordyn Kadlub (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) reached on a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice, stole third and scored on an error to push the lead to 4-0.

USF kept adding on in the third and fourth. Dezarae Maldonado (Winter Haven, Fla.) drove home Courtney Waldo (Palmetto, Fla.) on a sacrifice fly in the third to extend the Bulls’ lead to five, while Maldonado and Pierro both drove home runs in the fifth to open the lead to 7-0.

While the Bulls’ offense was firing on all cylinders, Corrick was also dealing in the circle. Through four, she had struck out seven and had only allowed two hits and didn’t allow another hit for the rest of the game.
