USF Soccer Teams Up With Feeding Tampa Bay to Help Families Affected by COVID-19

TAMPA (June 11, 2020) – The University of South Florida men’s soccer team is teaming up with Feeding Tampa Bay (FTB) to help ease the burden of COVID-19 on our neighbors in the community by hosting a virtual food drive. Feeding Tampa Bay is the area’s largest food bank, serving more than one million people in 10 counties in West Central Florida.

With job losses and school closures, the Tampa Bay community needs our support more than ever. Supporters can donate now through our page by clicking here.

“Giving back and being involved in the community is an important pillar of our program year after year,” said head coach Bob Butehorn. “We are so fortunate to have incredible support from the Tampa Bay area and now, more than ever, we need to use our platform in college athletics to have a positive impact.”

The drive will raise funds that will aid thousands of families in the Tampa Bay community. The need for food has reached unprecedented levels and continues to rise.  Currently 68 percent of people receiving food from Feeding Tampa Bay have never used a food bank before. At the start of the crisis, FTB prepared 500 meals per day; now they are serving more than 8,500 meals every day.

In addition, the Bulls have also asked each men’s soccer program in the American Athletic Conference to partner with their own local food banks as part of this initiative.
