USF Returns Home for USF Invitational

Another ranked opponent is on-deck for the Bulls at the USF Invitational


TAMPA, Feb. 20, 2020 – The University of South Florida softball team returns home to host No. 12/12 Tennessee and FIU during the USF Invitational after a trip across the Bay last weekend.

The Bulls (RV) are coming off a 2-3 showing against five ranked opponents at the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational, including back-to-back wins over No. 17/19 Texas Tech and No. 15 Georgia.

Sophomore Camryn Dolby (Round Hill, Va.) earned USF’s first complete-game shutout in a 3-0 victory over Texas Tech. The Bulls (2-7) benefitted from a three-run home run from Brooke Hartman (Port Orange, Fla.) in the win. 

Junior Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) was not only the winning pitcher against Georgia, but also hit the game-winning two-run homer, the first of her career. She also pitched her first shutout of the season, tallying seven shutdown innings with only three hits allowed, while also striking out nine.

Hartman had an inside-the-park home run against No. 3/2 UCLA, giving her two homers during the Invitational. AnaMarie Bruni (Schwenksville, Pa.) also pushed her hitting streak up to 10 games over the weekend.

Florida International (2-1)

USF Schedule: Friday, Feb. 21 at 4:30 p.m. & Saturday, Feb. 22 at 4:30 p.m.

Series vs. USF: FIU leads, 10-9

Players to Watch:

  • Jocelyn Alonso (SS/2B – Fr.) – Alonso leads the team with three RBIs in three games. She also has the highest batting average (.556) and OPS (1.112) on the team.
  • Allison Muraskin (P – Jr.) – In three appearances so far this season, Muraskin has allowed only one earned run in 15 innings, resulting in an ERA of 0.47. She also limits baserunners effectively, tallying a 0.67 WHIP.

Notes: Florida International is coming off of a bye weekend following its 2-1 start at the Felsberg Invitational.

Players to Watch:

  • Amanda Ayala (OF – Jr.): Ayala has been a catalyst for the Volunteers so far this season. She’s hitting with a .458/.536/.667 slash with two doubles, a home run and eight RBIs. The outfielder has also drawn three walks and has only struck out once in 24 at-bats. 
  • Callie Turner (P – Fr.): Turner leads Tennessee in appearances so far this season. In seven games, she has thrown 34 innings, and has amassed a 1.44 WHIP and a 2.88 ERA.

  • Texas 11, Tennessee 0
  • Tennessee 6, Northwestern 3

Notes: Tennessee traveled to Mexico last weekend, going 3-1 in its trip. Its losses this season have come against Texas and Arizona, both of whom have spent time ranked this season.
