Childress, Magee Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

BIRMINGHAM – Seniors Rachael Childress and Trista Magee of the UAB women’s basketball team have been named to the 2019-20 CoSIDA District 4 Academic All-District First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

“We are so proud of both Rachael and Trista for their accomplishments,” said head coach Randy Norton. “They both represent our program with excellence on the court, in the classroom and in the community.”

Childress, a senior shooting guard from Rogersville, Ala., is studying management with a concentration in general management as well as a second concentration in honors business. She holds a 3.7 GPA and has been named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll, UAB Presidential Honors and the C-USA Academic Medal throughout her career.

On the court, Childress is the nation’s active leader in career three pointers and recently moved into the top 10 NCAA all-time three pointers made with 402 in her career. Childress ranks second in the NCAA this season in threes made (90) and threes per game (3.6). She is fourth in C-USA in scoring averaging 16.9 points per game.

Magee is a redshirt senior from Ellisville, Miss. pursuing her master’s degree in public administration after graduating with her bachelor’s degree in general studies with a double minor in public health and marketing from UAB last spring. She holds a 3.7 GPA and has been named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll each of her seasons at UAB. 

Magee transferred to UAB from Alabama in the fall of 2017. After battling injuries throughout her career, she earned a starting role in the Blazers line up this season and has been a key contributor to the 34th ranked scoring team in the nation. Magee is averaging 9.3 points and 3.6 rebounds in 30.1 minutes of play per game. She ranks sixth in C-USA in threes made (46) and is averaging 1.8 triples per game.
