USF Ready For the First Edition of the War on I-4 at No. 14 UCF on Saturday

The Bulls look to get their first win as they travel to Orlando to face the Knights.

TAMPA (Feb. 19, 2021) – The University of South Florida men’s soccer team hits the road for the first time during the spring 2021 season as the Bulls travel east on Interstate-4 to butt heads with No. 14 UCF in the first edition of the War on I-4 in Orlando. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. and the match can be seen live on ESPN+. 

The match is the second of two-straight that USF will have played against a foe in the Top 25. Last week the Bulls took on No. 8 SMU at Corbett Stadium.

– The Knights come into their match with USF, ranked the No. 14 team in the country by TopDrawerSoccer.com, in this week’s poll … UCF is coming off a 1-0 win over Temple on Feb. 13 … Gino Vivi scored the match’s lone goal in the 39th minute.

– Vivi’s goal against Temple is also the Knights’ lone goal of the season, as he is atop the stat sheet in points for UCF with two … Anderson Rosa and Mauricio Villalobos are second and third, respectively in scoring with one point each.

THE SERIES AGAINST THE KNIGHTS

– USF has dominated the all-time series leading UCF 22-7-3, including an impressive 8-3-3 mark in Orlando … The Bulls have dropped their last two matches against the Knights, however, won the five before the two-match skid.

– The Green and Gold enjoy a sizable goals advantage in the series, 65-37 … Last season, UCF handed USF a tough 1-0 loss at Corbett Stadium.

A LOOK AHEAD

– Following Saturday’s game at UCF, USF will end the two-match road stretch at Temple on Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. (ESPN+) … USF will return home to Corbett Stadium on March 6, at 7 p.m., to host Tulsa.

CORBETT ATTENDANCE POLICY

– Due to virus mitigation measures and the size of the venue, USF will have limited fan attendance via pass list only at Corbett Stadium.

USF Men’s Soccer competed in the school’s first ever intercollegiate athletic contest on Sept. 25, 1965, beating Florida Southern 4-3. Since then, the oldest program on campus has built a winning tradition, claiming 14 conference championships and making 21 NCAA Tournament appearances, including 3 trips to the elite eight.

USF Soccer concluded the 2019 season with an 11-7-1 overall record, earning an at-large NCAA Tournament bid. Four players earned AAC honors, highlighted by first team selections Avionne Flanagan and Javain Brown. Adrian Billhardt was tabbed a second team selection. In addition, Brown and Salvatore Mazzaferro were named to The AAC All-Rookie Team. Head coach Bob Butehorn returns to lead USF in his fourth season on the sidelines.
