USF Pole Vaulter Stone Baker Highlights Day 1 At NCAA East Regional; Punches Ticket to NCAA Championships

New Port Richey’s Baker sets a new PR and ties the fourth-best mark in school history with a height of 17-2 ¾.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., MAY 26, 2021 – Sophomore pole vaulter Stone Baker carried over his success from the American Athletic Conference Championships to the NCAA East Regional Prelims on Wednesday, punching his ticket to his first NCAA Outdoor Championships.  

A graduate of River Ridge High School in New Port Richey, Baker set a new personal record with a height of 17-2 3/4, which is also tied for the fourth-best height in school history. He surpassed his previous top mark of 16-9 ¼ set at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championships where he posted a second-place finish.

Baker finished seventh at this year’s AAC Championships with a height of 16-7 ½.

Baker will now travel to Eugene, Ore. for the championships, June 9-12, at the University of Oregon’s historic Hayward Field. He is scheduled to compete on Wednesday, June 9, at 8:30 p.m. ET.

In addition to Baker, Duncan Agyemang (Kumasi, Ghana) advances to the quarterfinals in the 400M hurdles with a time of 50.87. The quarterfinals will take place on Friday at 7:55 p.m.
