USF MSOC: Men’s Soccer Falls To Florida Atlantic, 3-1

Boca Raton, Fla., Oct. 11, 2024 – South Florida men’s soccer (4-3-4, 2-2-0) fell, 3-1, to Florida Atlantic (3-4-3, 1-2-1) at FAU Soccer Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla. on Friday night.

Florida Atlantic got on the board early, in the first 49 seconds, Diarra Mamadou found the net off of a pass from Aboubacar Traore and Sebastian Zetti. Twenty minutes later the Owl’s Noah Kvifte scored off of the foot of Traore. In the 24th minute, the Owls struck again as Traore scored his first goal of the night. To end the first frame, Mathis Haugen scored the Bull’s first goal of the night, but the Owls led, 3-1.

In the second frame, the Owls would continue to hold their lead for the remainder of the match, securing the Bulls defeat.

NOTABLE NUMBERS 

  • Hagen’s goal marked the first goal of his collegiate career.
  • Florida Atlantic defeated South Florida for the first time since 1999, but USF still holds a 13-4-3 lead in the all-time series.
  • Felix Schaefer matched a career-high eight saves (at Charlotte, Sept. 27).
  • The Owls paced the Bulls in shots, 18-12.

South Florida hosts Stetson on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. and the match will stream live on ESPN+.

USF Men’s Soccer competed in the school’s first-ever intercollegiate athletic contest on Sept. 25, 1965, beating Florida Southern 4-3. Cunningham has also been selected to join the USF Athletics Hall of Fame this Fall.


The Bulls have reached the NCAA Tournament 13 times over the past 22 seasons.
