USF MSOC: Bulls Grab Crucial Shutout Against Memphis, 1-0

Tampa, Fla., Oct. 18, 2024 – South Florida men’s soccer (5-3-4, 3-2-0) secured their fourth shutout win of the season against Memphis (6-6-2, 3-1-1) at Corbett Stadium in Tampa, Fla. on Friday night, 1-0.

In the 32nd minute, Tyler Richardson connected on a long-range goal to find his first career score. During the final stanza, the Tigers pressured South Florida offensively, but goalkeeper Felix Schaefer prevented Memphis from connecting on a game-tying goal to lock in the shutout victory.

NOTABLE NUMBERS

  • Tyler Richardson notched his first collegiate goal.
  • The Bulls had more set-piece opportunities in the first half, 7-0.
  • Felix Schaefer collected his fourth shutout win of the season. It is his second shutout victory in the last three matches. It is his sixth shutout of the year.
  • The Bulls extended their lead in the all-time series against Memphis (19-7-5). It is the program’s 12th home win in 16 meetings.
  • The Bulls handed the Tigers their first conference loss of the season. It’s also the team’s first win versus Memphis since 2022.
  • USF remained undefeated when the team scored first and they led at the half.
  • The Green & Gold collected their first win when the opponent had more shots and USF secured more saves.
  • In the 71st minute, Pedro Faife was charged a red card. The Bulls finished the final 19 with only ten players.

Men’s Soccer has two Alumni and a coach in the USF Athletics Hall of Fame: Fergus Hopper and Jeff Attinella, & Dan Holcomb. Cunningham has also been selected to join the USF Athletics Hall of Fame this Fall.


The Bulls have reached the NCAA Tournament 13 times over the past 22 seasons.
