USF MGolf Signs Top-Ranked Junior in India

Incoming freshman Shubham Jaglan also is the second-ranked amateur in his country and the youngest member of the Indian Amateur National Team.

TAMPA, NOV. 12, 2020 – USF men’s golf has added more highly accomplished international talent to the program with the signing of Shubham Jaglan to a National Letter of Intent on Thursday.

Currently listed at No. 353 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, the incoming freshman is the top-ranked junior golfer in India and also the country’s No. 2 ranked amateur. Jaglan has the distinction of being the youngest member of the Indian Amateur National Team and he’s won several major tournaments in the past five years, including the IMG Junior World Championship (2015).

“For us to be able to get a player like the caliber of Shubham is outstanding,” head coach Steve Bradley said. “I would anticipate him coming in and trying to step into that top five for sure and kind of giving everyone a run for their money. I’m looking forward to him coming in and instantly raising the bar for everybody.”

Hailing from New Delhi, India, Jaglan will be heading to Tampa with an already outstanding golf resume packed with huge accomplishments. The two-time U.S. Kids European Junior Championship winner (2016-17) shot 18-under to capture the title at the U.S. Kids Junior World Championship (2016). He also topped the leaderboard at the 2019 Northern India Amateur with a 19-under score through four days of competition.

“Looking at his resume, Shubham has played all over the world. He’s got a great-looking golf swing and creates a lot of speed,” said Bradley of the new Bull who committed in late October.

Born in Israna, Panipat district, Haryana, Jaglan started to really make a name for himself as India’s top-ranked junior player at the under-11, 13 and 15 levels. Earning Emerging Player accolades from New Delhi Television in 2012, Jaglan was recognized by the President of India in 2015 and named Sports Illustrated India’s Sports Kid of the Year in 2016.

“Shubham is instantly going to make us a better team not only on the course but off,” assistant coach Brad Caldwell said. “He has an amazing story of how he got into golf that speaks volumes to his character as a person and the drive he has to be great in everything he does. That is the qualities we are looking for in a student-athlete. He has a bright future ahead and we are excited for him to get to Tampa.”

Jaglan will arrive at USF with fellow Class of 2021 member Chase Gullikson, who recently signed a National Letter of Intent with the Bulls. The Orlando native won the 2018 Florida Boys Junior Championship.

“For us, you’re going to get these guys for the next four years,” said Bradley, who envisions USF as a perennial top-25 program. “Kids like this are coming into our program and buying into our culture and what we’re doing here. They’re going to do great in the classroom and they’re going to be great teammates. Just as importantly, I expect them to raise not only their game but also their teammates on the golf course. I think that’s how you continue to build and sustain that success. We’re trending in the right direction and I expect these guys to take that next step for us.”
