TAMPA, FEB. 13, 2022 – The No. 25-ranked USF men’s golf team opened its spring team competition season finishing third among a 14-team field Sunday at the 45th VyStar Gators Invitational in Gainesville.

The Bulls shot rounds of 280, 276 and 282 for a 2-over total of 838. USF finished behind host and No. 31-ranked Florida (-28, 812) and No. 3-ranked Oklahoma State (-16, 824) on the Par 70, 6,701-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course. The Bulls bettered No. 23 LSU (+7) and No. 24 Liberty (+39) on the weekend as well as teams from Penn State, FAU, West Virginia, Missouri and UCF among others.

Defending American Athletic Conference Champion Albin Bergstrom (Falsterbo, Sweden), who is ranked No. 12 nationally, fired a final round 5-under par 65, collecting five birdies on the front nine, to finish T3 with an 8-under par, 202, one stroke of his career 54-hole low. He shot 68 and 69 in the first two rounds as he collected his 19th top 10 finish and now has 67 career rounds of par or better, four from second all-time as USF and 12 shy of the USF record of 79 set by Chase Koepka (2013-16).

Sophomore Run Youprayong (Bangkok, Thailand) finished T13 with rounds of 70, 68, 71 for a 1-under par total of 209. Junior Luke Gifford (Boca Raton) finished T19, firing rounds of 72, 70, 69 for a 1-over par211.

Freshman Shubham Jaglan (New Delhi, India) placed T44 with rounds of 71, 69, 77 for a total of 2017. Junior Ian Peng (Chung Hua, Taiwan) placed T72 with rounds of 71, 73, 80 for a total of 224.

NOTABLE

• JR Albin Bergstrom currently has the Bulls’ best-ever career scoring average (70.45), more than a stroke better than Koepka’s previous mark of 71.53.

• Bergstrom owns USF career records for scoring average (70.45), tournament low round (63, 2019-20), tournament low round to par (-9, 2019-20), tournament low 36-hole total (133, -11, 2018-19), and is second in wins (3), low 54-hole total (201, -11, 2018-19) and third in par or better rounds (67).
