USF MGOLF: Bergstrom posts 5th Top 10 In Last 6

No. 9-ranked Albin Bergstrom posts fifth Top 10 finish in six outings


TAMPA, MARCH 1, 2022 – The No. 24-ranked USF men’s golf team fired a final round 285 to finish sixth Tuesday on a tough Tom Fazio course at the Coral Creek Collegiate in Placida, Fla.

The Bulls shot a 12-over total of 864, posting their best round in Tuesday’s final, to finish in the top third of the 16-team field that included five teams ranked in the top 50 nationally. Florida Gulf Coast won the tournament with a 14-under score of 838.

Defending American Athletic Conference Champion Albin Bergstrom (Falsterbo, Sweden) shot back-to-back rounds of 1-under par 70 after an opening round 72 to finish 10th with a 1-under total of 212. It marked the fifth top 10 finish in six outings this season for the junior who entered the week ranked No. 9 nationally and fourth among Europeans in the Arnold Palmer Cup Rankings. The top six will compete in the 25th Arnold Palmer Cup, an annual Ryder-Cup style competition among collegians held this year at Rich Harvest Farms outside Chicago. 

South Alabama’s Mathias Lorentzen won the tournament shooting an 8-under total of 205.

Freshman Shubham Jaglan (New Delhi, India) shot a final round of 69, tops among Bulls, to go with rounds of 73 and 74 for a 3-over total of 216 and a tie for 28th. Junior Luke Gifford (Boca Raton) finished tied for 37th, firing rounds of 71, 74 and 73 for a 5-over total of 218. Sophomore Sam Nicholson (Atlantic Beach) shot rounds of 74, 72, 73 for a 6-over total of 219 and T42 finish, while Sophomore Run Youprayong (Bangkok, Thailand) finished T59 after rounds of 73, 76, 74 and a 10-over total of 223.
