USF Men’s Golf Welcomes Cooper Smith

Tampa native transferring from the University of North Florida 

 
TAMPA, Fl. June 6, 2023 – University of South Florida Head Men’s Golf Coach Steve Bradley announced the addition of Cooper Smith, a transfer from the University of North Florida, to the Bulls roster. Smith will join the team as a redshirt junior. 

A standout at Freedom High School in Tampa, Smith competed for North Florida the last two seasons, posting one top 10 and two top 25 finishes while recording eight rounds under par. He played in eight events in the 2022-23 season and posted a 73.04 scoring average, including a low round of 66 at the Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate. He went on to post a career-best 54-hole total of 210 in the event. 

In 2021-22, Smith competed in six events for North Florida. He was named the ASUN Golfer of the Week on Feb. 10, for his performance at Bucknell and was named to the ASUN Conference All-Freshman team. He posted a season-best finish of sixth at the Veterans Intercollegiate after firing a 3-under total of 213.  

In non-collegiate competition, Smith posted a second-place finish at the New Years Invitational in January of 2023, a third-place finish at the FSGA State Am Match Play in 2022, and was the FSGA Florida Four-Ball Champion.  

Smith was a two-time district champion and qualified for the 2A State Championship while at Freedom High School.

The USF men’s golf program has captured 17 conference titles and has seen players earn 21 All-America honors. The Bulls have won five American Athletic Conference Tournament championships in wire-to-wire fashion, winning four-consecutive from 2015-18. The Bulls have had four individual conference champions, including Albin Bergstrom in 2021, and gone on to earn nine straight NCAA Regional appearances from 2013-2022, including a 6th place finish in NCAA Championship match-play in 2015. USF is led by Steve Bradley, who has been named American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year five times since taking over the program in 2014. The Bulls have posted 20 tournament wins under Bradley entering the 2023-24 season, by far the most under any coach in program history.
