USF Men’s Golf Finishes Third in Opening Spring Event

The Bulls record fifth Top 4 Finish of the 2023-24 season

TAMPA, FLA., February 17, 2024 – The University of South Florida opened the Spring schedule with a strong showing at the Florida Gators Invitational, posting an official third place finish in the 16-team field. The Bulls picked up where they left off in Fall action that saw USF win two tournaments and finish in the Top 4 of three Fall events.

In Gainesville, the Bulls opened with a 277 (-3) and stood in third place after round one on Friday afternoon. USF followed up with a 281 (+1) in the second round Friday evening, dropping to fifth place. In Saturday’s final round the Bulls posted a 283 (+3) and moved up two spots into an official third place finish. Florida fielded two teams in the event, only one counts in the official results.

Senior Jake Peacock (Milton, Ga.), paced the Bulls, shooting 205 (-5) to finish in a tie for sixth.  Peacock, who shot par or better in all three rounds, opened with a 67 (-3) good for a second- place tie. A second-round 70 (E) dropped him into a tie for ninth place. A closing 68 (-2) moved him five spots up the leaderboard into a tie for sixth, his second Top 10 finish this season and his fifth as a Bull. Peacock tied for second in Par 3 scoring at -3.

Senior Sam Nicholson (Atlantic Beach, Fla.), who notched a win and his fifth Top 10 finish as a Bull in the Fall, improved five spots in the final round to finish tied for 21st. Nicholson opened with a 71 (+1) and closed with a pair of even-par 70’s in the final two rounds. Nicholson joined teammate Peacock in a tie for second in Par 3 scoring at -3.

Graduate student Brock Healy (Norcross, Ga.), who captured his first win as Bull in the Fall, joined Nicholson at T21. Healy opened with a 68 (-2), followed up with a 72 (+2) and closed with a 71 (+1).

Redshirt junior Cooper Smith (Tampa, Fla.) finished in a tie for 43rd. Smith posted a pair of oner-over 71’s in the first two rounds and closed with a 73 (+2).

Junior Shubham Jaglan (Jr., Delhi, India) recorded rounds of 72 (+2), 70 (E), and 76 (+6) to finished in a tie for 45th place. Jaglan contributed a scoring round with an even-par 70 in the second round.

The USF men’s golf program has captured 17 conference titles and has seen players earn 19 All-America honors. The Bulls have won five American Athletic Conference Tournament championships in wire-to-wire fashion, winning four-consecutive from 2015-18.
