USF Men’s Golf Finishes Seventh at Hayt Invitational

The Bulls were led by Jake Peacock who tied for the low score in the final round.

TAMPA, FLA., March 11, 2024 – The University of South Florida men’s golf team finished seventh among a strong field at the Hayt Invitational on Monday. Jake Peacock led the way for the Bulls, closing with a 69 (-3) which tied for the low score in the final round.

The Bulls have finished in the Top 4 in five of the seven tournaments this season, including two wins in the Fall and a second and third-place finish in the first two tournaments of the Spring. 

Across the state in Ponte Vedra, the No. 40-ranked Bulls posted a final score of 886 (+22). In a field in which eight of the 14 teams were ranked in the Top 75 in the country, the only team under par was the winner, top-ranked North Carolina. Just five total players overall finished under par for the 54-hole event. South Florida improved each round, opening with a 303 (+15) on Saturday, followed by a 292 (+4) on Sunday and 291 (+3) to close out the tournament on Monday.

Peacock (Milton, Ga.), a junior and the AAC Men’s Golfer of the Week last week following his win at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate, moved up 12 spots on the leaderboard in the final round to finish tied for 15th. A member 2022-23 AAC Men’s Golf All-Conference Team, Peacock lowered his score each round. He opened with a 76 (+4) in the first round, shot 73 (+1) in the second round and closed with a 69 (-3).

Junior Shubham Jaglan (Jr., Delhi, India) recorded seven birdies in the final round, shooting 71 (-1) to move up five spots into a tie for 20th. Jaglan opened with a 73 (+1), followed by a 76 (+4) in the second round before finishing with his low round of the tournament.

Graduate student Brock Healy (Norcross, Ga.), who captured his first win as Bull in the Fall, shot his low round of the tournament in the second round with a 70 (-2), bookended by a pair of 77’s (+5) in the first and third rounds to tie for 35th individually.

Redshirt junior Cooper Smith (Tampa, Fla.) tied for 50th. Smith opened with a 77 (+5), came back with a scoring round 73 (+1) in the second round and closed with a 76 (+4).

Senior Sam Nicholson (Atlantic Beach, Fla.), who notched a win and his fifth Top 10 finish as a Bull in the Fall, finished tied for 54th. Nicholson improved each round. He shot 78 (+6) in the first round, 76 (+4) in the second round and closed with his low round of the tournament, a scoring round of 75 (+3).
