USF Hits the Road to Face FGCU on Thursday

The Bulls travel south in Interstate 75 for the first of two straight road tilts

TAMPA (Sept. 1, 2021) – The University of South Florida men’s soccer team ventures away from the friendly confines of Corbett Stadium for the first time this season as the Bulls travel south on Interstate 75 to face Sunshine State foe Florida Gulf Coach on Thursday. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m. in Fort Myers. The Green and Gold are looking for their second win of the 2021 campaign.

The match against the Eagles marks the first of two straight on the road for South Florida. The Bulls will close out the short two-match stretch on Monday when they travel to South Carolina to face No. 4/6 Clemson.

THE SERIES VS. FGCU

– USF and FGCU will meet for the first time since a 1-0 South Florida win in October 2019 … the Bulls hold a 5-4-4 lead against the Eagles … The Bulls started the series 3-1, however, are 2-3-4 in their last nine outings against the Eagles.

– Florida Gulf Coast snapped USF’s 30-game home unbeaten streak – the nation’s longest – handing the Bulls a tough 2-1 loss Sept. 1, 2010, in front of 1,424 fans at the USF Soccer Stadium.

– USF holds a paper-thin 20-18 scoring edge against FGCU in the all-time series.

A LOOK AT THE EAGLES

–  FGCU is coming off a tough 1-0 overtime loss over FIU on Sunday night in Fort Myers … The Panthers scored the game-winning goal in the 96th minute of play.

– The Eagles were forced to play a man down after a red card was issued to goalkeeper Gustavo Vasconcelos at the 71st minute.

A LOOK AHEAD

– Following Thursday’s match, against FGCU, the Bulls will hit the road for their second-straight road match, when they play at No. 4/6 Clemson on Sept. 6 … Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.

– USF will return to Corbett Stadium on Sept. 10, when they face Stetson, at 7 p.m.

CORBETT ATTENDANCE POLICY

– For the first time since Nov. 9, 2019, Corbett Stadium will return to full-capacity seating for fans, a stretch of 647-days entering USF’s season-opening match against Jacksonville on Aug. 26.

USF Men’s Soccer competed in the school’s first ever intercollegiate athletic contest on Sept. 25, 1965, beating Florida Southern 4-3.
