DATE: April 9, 2019

USF (29-14, 7-2) will take its six-game win streak to Gainesville on Wednesday for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch against the No. 6 Gators on SEC Network

TAMPA, APRIL 9, 2019 – USF softball will travel to Gainesville, to take on No. 6 Florida at 7:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network.

This will be the second meeting for the Bulls and the Gators (32-9, 6-6) this season as USF hosted UF in its opening tournament in February. Despite USF jumping ahead in the first inning with a pair of doubles by junior AnaMarie Bruni (Schwenksville, Pa.) and senior Lindsey Devitt (Jacksonville, Fla.), Florida took home the winning score in that game, 7-1.

USF is currently on a six-game winning streak with two straight sweeps in conference play against Houston and ECU. The Bulls have won seven of their last nine games, dropping just two in conference play so far, both to RV/RV Tulsa. As a team, the Bulls are batting .256 and outscoring opponents, 277-225.

Last weekend USF took down ECU in three straight, and sophomore Georgina Corrick was named to The American Honor Roll after pitching 15 innings for the Bulls in two complete games that included one shutout and one extra-inning victory. Corrick fanned 19 over the weekend, 10 on Friday and nine on Sunday. She allowed just two runs and six hits in 15 innings.

Corrick ranks in the top 25 nationally in seven categories and leads The American in each of those.

  • No. 8 in ERA (1.10)
  • No. 14 in strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.15)
  • No. 15 in wins (16)
  • No. 16 in hits allowed per seven innings (3.93)
  • No. 18 in strikeouts (160)
  • No. 21 in strikeouts per seven innings (9.3)
  • No. 22 in shutouts (5)

Center fielder Bruni also checks into the national rankings, her 51 hits this season rank first in The American, and 22nd in the nation. Last week, Bruni batted .500 against the Pirates and scored three runs, including USF’s game-winner in the bottom of the eighth inning on Sunday. Bruni dropped a double perfectly down the right field line, and advanced to third on a groundout before taking advantage of a dropped pop-up in the infield to sprint home for the walk-off win.
