USF Golf: Bergstrom Named PING All-Region

Sophomore AAC Champion earns Southeast Region honors for second time

TAMPA, FLA. (May 31, 2021) – Sophomore USF men’s golf standout Albin Bergstrom (Falsterbo, Sweden) has been named a PING All-Southeast Region selection by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

The 2021 American Athletic Conference Tournament Champion and a unanimous selection to the AAC All-Conference Team, Bergstrom became the fourth player in program history to win medalist honors at the AAC Golf Championship in late April. He entered the final day of the tournament three shots off the lead, and finished with a three-stroke victory after shooting 6-under-par 66 in the final round, including draining a 50-foot birdie putt from off the green on the final hole.

Bergstrom was the catalyst for the Bulls’ success all season – leading the Bulls to their fifth AAC team title and eighth straight NCAA Championship regional appearance. Bergstrom led the team with a 70.52 scoring average on the year – the second-lowest of his three-year career. He has carded rounds of par or better 20 times, and placed in the top 25 in seven of USF’s nine outings this spring, including three top-10 performances and one win. He carded 11 rounds in the 60’s, including a season-best 65 and is ranked No. 20 nationally by Golfstat.

The All-Region selection was the second of Bergstrom’s career. He was also selected the 2019 AAC Freshman of the Year and is a member of the Swedish National team.

The USF men’s golf program has won 17 conference titles – five in The American under head coach Steve Bradley (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021) – and has competed in the NCAA Championships every year it has been held since 2013 (2020 was cancelled due to COVID-19), including reaching the match-play finals and finishing sixth in the nation in 2015. The Bulls won the 2021 American Championship by five strokes after shooting a conference tournament record 18-under-par 270 in the opening round, and prevailing with the third-lowest score in AAC history at the conclusion of the championship, shooting 17-under-par 847.

The Bulls have won 20 tournaments in Bradley’s seven seasons leading the program.
