USF Gears Up for UCF in The War on I-4 Part 2

USF and UCF entered the week in a three-way tie for second in The American standings.

TAMPA (Feb. 18, 2020) – USF hits the road for the first of two straight games away from the Yuengling Center, beginning on Wednesday night against UCF in the second edition of the War on I-4. Game time at Addition Financial Arena in Orlando is slated for 6 p.m. (ESPN3). Despite the Bulls’ loss to No. 5/6 UConn on Feb. 16 in Tampa, they enter the game with the Knights having won five of their last seven and eight of their last 11.

– UCF comes into its game with USF with a 15-8 record and a 7-4 mark in The American … Entering the week, the Bulls and Knights are two of the three teams – along with Cincinnati (Cincinnati plays at Houston on Tuesday night) – in a tie for second in the AAC standings at 7-4 … UCF has won its last four games, five of its last six and six of its last eight, a stretch that began with a 64-57 win over the Bulls on Jan. 19 in Tampa.
 
– UCF has two players averaging double digits in the scoring column, led by Kay Kay Wright, netting 16.5 points per game … Brittney Smith is averaging 11.0 points per game … Masseny Kaba leads the Knights on the glass, grabbing 6.4 rebounds per game.
 
THE SERIES AGAINST THE KNIGHTS
– Wednesday’s game marks the 41st meeting between USF and UCF in the War on I-4, with the Bulls holding a 28-12 series lead, dating back to the inaugural meeting in January of 1973 … USF holds a slight 10-9 advantage over the Knights in games played in Orlando.
 
– Lights-out from long range all game, Elisa Pinzan put USF ahead by three near the midpoint of the fourth quarter before the Bulls dropped a 64-57 decision against UCF on Jan. 19 in the first War on I-4 installment of the season … Pinzan set a career high with seven made three-pointers in 12 attempts and matched her personal best with 23 points in the first home loss of the season for the Bulls … Pinzan also had a game-high five assists, just one turnover in 40 minutes, and two steals in front of 3,017 fans at the Yuengling Center … Bethy Mununga finished with 12 points and a team-leading nine rebounds in the first game of the season USF lost the battle on the glass.
