Bulls football team holds PK shootout with USF’s nationally ranked women’s soccer program.
Head Coach Jeff Scott makes $10,000 donation to Stampede for Women – USF initiative to empower female student-athletes
The USF football team completed its fall camp practice on Friday with the entire team and staff going next door to the women’s soccer practice facility and challenging the team to a penalty kick shootout. The challenge began with All-American keeper Sydney Martinez challenging Coach Jeff Scott on Tuesday. Scott agreed to the challenge with the caveat the women had to defeat the Florida Gators in Thursday’s season opener at Corbett Stadium. The No. 19/20 ranked women won, 2-1, behind an impressive effort from Martinez in goal and in front of a near record crowd 1,956. Scott kept his promise.
On Friday, the shootout was locked in a 4-4 tie, when Scott and women’s soccer head coach Denise Schilte-Brown (who has led the program to four straight conference championships) took to the pitch to break the tie, each taking a shot while the other stood in goal. Schilte-Brown’s strategic shot hit just off the post. Scott took a big swing and snuck it by Schilte-Brown for the win, sending Bulls players into pandemonium.
USF women’s sports really won on the day, as following the festivities Scott presented a $10,000 check, a donation from him in the name of the USF Football program, to support the Stampede For Women, a USF initiative to raise awareness and financial support to empower Bulls female student-athletes.
