Junior linebacker led Bulls in tackles, sacks, tackles for loss and forced fumbles

TAMPA, DEC. 15, 2020 – South Florida junior linebacker Antonio Grier Jr. (Atlanta, Ga.) was named a second-team selection Tuesday when the American Athletic Conference announced its 2020 season All-Conference teams.

In his second season as a starter for the Bulls’ defense, Grier led USF in tackles (59), tackles for loss (5.5), sacks (3.0) and forced fumbles (2) while playing in eight of the Bulls’ nine games on the season and making seven starts. He ranked 10th in the conference posting 7.4 tackles per game and tied for 15th with 3.0 sacks.

The 6-1, 222-pounder earned AAC Weekly Honor Roll recognition after the Bulls’ season opening win over the Citadel (27-6) as he led the team with 10 tackles and added a sack and a forced fumble. Grier led the Bulls in tackles in three games on the year, posting 10 tackles in games vs. The Citadel, ECU and Memphis.

Grier and fellow junior linebacker Dwayne Boyles (Miami), who missed three games on the year, ranked at the top of the Bulls’ statistics in both tackles and tackles for loss, with Boyles posting 44 and 5.0, respectively, in his six games. The pair have started 12 and 16 games, respectively, the last two seasons and look to form the core of the USF’s defense in 2021.
