USF Falls in Midweek Tilt at Florida A&M

The Bulls dropped their first midweek game of 2020 to the Rattlers, 5-1.

TAMPA (Feb. 17, 2020) – The USF baseball team fell to Florida A&M on the road Monday, 5-1.

The Bulls (2-2) fell behind to the Rattlers (1-0), 1-0, in the first. Florida A&M then plated its second run in the second and three in the fifth to lead 5-1.

The Bulls were able to get on the board in the top of the third inning when Dontae Mitchel (St. Petersburg, Fla.) crossed home thanks to a fielding error by Ryan Coscarella, but Florida A&M would extend their lead to, 5-1, when Jared Weber would hit a three-run double to left-center.

Baron Stuart (Okeechobee, Fla.) suffered the loss on the hill for the Bulls allowing four runs on three hits through 4.2 innings.

Graham Hoffman (Tampa, Fla.)  made his first appearance after returning from Tommy John Monday night. Hoffman struck out the side during his one inning of relief.

The University of South Florida baseball program is one of the fastest rising programs in the country. The Bulls earned their third NCAA Regional berth in the last four seasons and had six all-conference selections in 2018. Four players were selected in the 2018 MLB Draft, including the program’s fourth first rounder, pitcher Shane McClanahan. Third baseman David Villar was taken in the 11th round after being named first team all-conference and an All-American.
