USF Ends Regular Season Home Slate With A Dominating 4-0 Win Over Cincy on Senior Night

Senior group honored prior to the match made major contributions in the win.

TAMPA (Nov. 1, 2019) – On a night reserved for honoring its graduating seniors, it was extremely fitting that it was that same senior group that helped the University of South Florida men’s soccer team to a dominating 4-0 win over Cincinnati on Senior Night in a crucial American Athletic Conference match at Corbett Stadium on Friday night. The win improves the Bulls to 9-5-1* on the year and 3-3* in The American while the Bearcats fall to 5-10-1 overall and 1-4-1 in conference play.

Prior to the match, the Bulls honored their four seniors, Harrison Devenish-Meares (Sydney, Australia), Jonathan Rosales (Kissimmee, Fla.), Stephen Rudderham (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Emilio Ycaza (St. Petersburg, Fla.).

Rosales led USF with a goal and an assist while Javain Brown (Kingston, Jamaica), Adrian Billhardt (Berlin, Germany) and Trey Jackson (Ocala, Fla.) all added goals in the win.

Devenish-Meares, who was never really challenged during the night, recorded five saves as he posted his fourth shutout of the season and the seventh clean sheet of his career.

The Bulls took control early and never looked back, netting three goals in the first half, with two of the three coming in the first 23 minutes of play. Brown got the scoring started, just six minutes in, taking a pass off a corner kick from Rosales and fired the shot past Cincinnati’s Noah Lawrence. Then, Billhardt connected on the Bulls first penalty kick of the season, in the 23rd minute, to make the score 2-0, USF. Rosales closed out the first half scoring with a goal in the 42nd minute of play to give the Bulls a commanding 3-0 lead just before the break.

USF continued to push offensively in the second stanza while also locking the Bearcats down defensively. Jackson finished the scoring beating Lawrence in the 73rd minute, off passes from Freddy Gil (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Rudderham. The Bulls also held Cincinnati to just two shots in the final half after allowing only five shots in the first 45 minutes of play.

Quotable

“It’s always good to get the win, and it’s always good to do it on Senior Night, and for them to have those memories and have them go out the right way. Harry (Harrison), and Emilio and Ruddy (Stephen Rudderham) and Jona (Jonathan Rosales) are all special people. Special night, special people, good times, big smiles, what else is there to say.” – USF head coach Bob Butehorn on USFs win over Cincinnati.
